Your Job as a Client
Your first step should be to take a DNA test.
You can choose from several companies that offer tests. It takes several weeks to a few months for results so please be patient and know that as soon as they come back we will start the search for your family.
I Have My Results!!
If you have already taken the test and you have your results I am ready to go take a look and see what we are working with. Sometimes people are lucky and they have a very close match, sometimes you only have distant matches, regardless, I am still able to work with what you have!
What I Do Next
Once I look at your matches I start a "Mirror Tree". This means I am taking your closest match who has a family tree and copying it into a tree for you. From there I spend all my time adding DNA matches. Eventually what happens is I will find several with the same Ancestors.
About Us
My husband is Amerasian, he was born in Vietnam, his father was an American soldier, and his mom a Vietnamese woman from Saigon. Unfortunately his father had to leave the country without any warning and could not say goodbye, he did not know his girlfriend was pregnant. She was so scared that people would come hurt her or her baby because he was fathered by an American that she burned all pictures and any letters she had.
In 1989 then President Ronald Regan signed the Amerasian Homecoming Act which allowed children of Vietnam Veterans to come to the United States. With his mom, my husband came here in 1990. Without a name, it was impossible for us to get any help from organizations like the Red Cross to find his father.
I started researching my husband's family in 2014,when Ancestry.com came out with its DNA test. We had so many unanswered questions, but the DNA test gave us great information to start out with. Using the Ancestry DNA test I was able to link him with cousins, who were able to connect us with many other family members. Everntually we found his Biological Father in 2017. It was a splendid reunion, and I wish the same outcome for everyone!
